Meet Vicki Francks, CNWI

Vicki Francks, CNWI, has been professionally trained in Nose Work instruction by NACSW founders Ron Gaunt, Amy Herot & Jill Marie O’Brien.  She has taken beginning though advanced Nose Work classes from Miriam Rose, CNWI, CPDT-KA, and the first Certified Nose Work Instructor (CNWI) in Washington State. Her Doberman Pinscher, Gracie Ellen, a rescue, has earned her Nose Work 1 title and was also awarded the prestigious Harry Award, which is awarded to the most outstanding Rescue dog at a Nose Work 1 trial.  Vicki is also teaching Nose Work to two of the three Border Collies that she handles in Flyball: Stella May and Belle, who have passed their ORTs for birch & are currently training for their first Nose Work 1 trial.

Vicki is a member of the National Association of Canine Scent Work (NACSW), the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), the Cascade Comets Dog Sports Club (Flyball), & served on the Board of the Cascade Doberman Pinscher Club.  She competes & volunteers in NACSW sanctioned Nose Work trials.  She successfully handles several dogs in Flyball tournaments & assists in the teaching of Flyball classes. Vicki is involved in Doberman Pinscher rescue & has volunteered at the Seattle Animal Shelter.

Growing up in Stamford Connecticut, Vicki frequently found herself followed home by stray dogs.  She raised baby birds that had fallen, featherless, out of their nests; proud to watch them fly for the first time & bittersweet to watch them leave home with their new winged families.  She has owned & loved dogs since toddler years.  In fact, her first words were not "Da-da" or "Momma" as with most babies, but "Laa, laa" as she chased Laddie the neighbor dog down the street.

Vicki has worked for 21 years as a Speech-Language Pathologist.  She earned her BA degree in Communication Disorders from the University of Pittsburgh and an MS degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Washington. She has worked in hospitals, outpatient rehab, home health & skilled nursing to assess & treat patients who have cognitive, speech, language & swallowing disorders.  She is certified in Compton P-ESL Accent Modification, NMES VitalStim therapy, and LSVT-LOUD speech treatment for Parkinson’s.  She continues to work for a major rehabilitation company as well as to treat patients in her private practice: Northwest Speech Pathology Services.

Prior to pursuing her higher education track, Vicki worked for several well-known Hunter/Jumper show stables on the east coast before striking out on her own.  She operated her own show stable, training show horses & teaching students from children to adult for the Hunter/Jumper show circuit. Her students consistently placed in year-end award placings. She currently rides her Thoroughbred, Oh Jeepers! in Dressage.

Note: Only instructors that have been officially trained by the founders of the National Association of Canine Scent Work may term their classes "K9 Nose Work ® ".
